What Are the Top 10 Home Decor Trends For 2022?

Hello, friends!

As we near the end of the year, it’s time to look ahead at the upcoming home decor trends for 2022. I’m thrilled to share my top 10 picks, so let’s dive right into it! In this post, I’ll take you through the trends that made a big splash and will continue to shine as we enter 2022. Get ready for some seriously exciting design ideas!

1. A Warmer Color Palette

Say goodbye to the cool tones that have been dominant for years. 2022 is all about warmth—think rich terracotta, warm beige, and soft earthy tones that create an inviting and cozy atmosphere in your home.

Bold, Eye-Catching Art

“Not seeing a lot of warm colors in this room? That’s okay! If you’re not quite ready to fully commit to warmer tones, you can still bring them in subtly. The buffet and artwork in this space add a touch of warmth without overwhelming the room. Just choose bold, eye-catching art and keep your walls light and airy. This way, you’re introducing those warm elements without sacrificing the room’s overall brightness.”

This version keeps the casual tone while making the ideas more concise.

“The creamy tones on the walls are simply beautiful—not a stark white, but a soft, warm shade that flows into the rich brown trim, bringing this room to life. The space also features a vibrant green sofa, my favorite color, which adds a refreshing pop. And let’s not forget the traditional rug—it adds so much character and truly makes the room feel complete.Source of Photo

Warm palettes are making a comeback, especially in finishes and flooring. Expect to see less of the grey woods and darker tones, with a shift toward sandy, warm wood floors that feel both welcoming and timeless.”

How beautiful are the sandy brown wood floors? These floors are unique and should I say special.  The source of this photo is much like the floor below but with a lighter hue

2. The Rise of the Home Office in Home Decor Trends.

With remote work becoming a norm, home offices are here to stay. But they’re not just functional—2022 brings sophisticated design upgrades to make your workspace both practical and beautiful. Think ergonomic furniture, sleek shelving, and lots of natural light.d

This has to be one of my favorite work environments. I like the built-ins and how dark blue the paint is on them. Additionally, the desk is attractive. Also, that chandelier is the perfect fit for the room.

3. The Kitchen’s Time to Shine

“Kitchens with all-white cabinets continue to be a favorite, but this year, I expect to see a blend of wood tones mixed in to add warmth and dimension. The days of completely all-white or all-wood cabinetry are behind us—2022 is all about creating contrast and visual interest. By incorporating wood accents alongside white cabinets, you’ll create a more dynamic and inviting kitchen space that feels fresh and modern.”

What else can I say? You all know how much I adore green, and this kitchen with its green island does not disappoint. This is the kitchen to model if you are not ready to transition to a more colorful kitchen but still want to keep some white. Source by Build.Com

First and foremost, may I express how much I adore the open shelving in this kitchen? Anyway, not to deviate from the topic, but I love how the 2022 trends are repeated in so many kitchen designs. Pottery Barn design

4. Statement Backsplashes: Keep 2022 Decor Trends Alive

It’s time to infuse your backsplash with personality! One of the biggest home decor trends for 2022 is moving away from the typical, polished subway tile and embracing more unique, worn-effect tiles. Forget perfectly uniform, modern designs—this year’s tiles are rough, textured, and full of character. The imperfections are what make them stand out, giving your kitchen a one-of-a-kind vibe.

So, if you’re renovating your kitchen and want to avoid the ‘brand new’ look, consider adding some worn tiles and pairing them with natural wood elements like open shelves. After all, who needs perfection when you can have charm and character?

5. Curves and Arched Doorways

“I couldn’t be more excited about this trend—it’s something I fell in love with 16 years ago when we bought our house, and it still resonates with me today. One of the standout features in our home was an arched doorway leading into the room we planned to use as our office. The room didn’t have a door, just that beautiful arched opening. We thought, ‘Wouldn’t it be great to have a door here?’ But we didn’t want to lose that stunning arch.

Our solution?

An arched French door. At the time, it seemed like a luxury that would break the bank, so we decided to tackle it as a DIY project—and we pulled it off! Stay tuned for an upcoming post where I’ll share all the behind-the-scenes details of how we made it happen”.

6. Embracing Enclosed Floor Plans for 2022.

While open floor plans have been popular for years, more homeowners are opting for enclosed spaces that offer more privacy and intimacy. From separate dining rooms to cozy reading nooks, defined spaces are making a comeback.

The home office is not only open to the rest of the space but it is also enclosed. It is, nevertheless, still visible. The French door provides privacy because it can be closed off from the rest of the room.

7).  Shiplap: Is shiplap on its way out?

Not at all! Shiplap is here to stay for a bit longer, and who knows—it might just stick around indefinitely. However, this year, we’re seeing a twist: shiplap is being installed vertically rather than horizontally. The vertical orientation brings a fresh, modern feel to spaces and even adds the illusion of height, moving away from the traditional farmhouse vibe. This is what I like to call the ‘flip mode’—a simple shift that makes a big impact!”

9. Vintage is Here to Stay

Vintage decor is making a massive comeback in 2022, with a focus on repurposing older pieces. From refurbished furniture to antique lighting, adding a touch of nostalgia to your home decor gives it personality and charm.

“I’m a big fan of incorporating vintage pieces into a room—they instantly add character and make a space feel cozy and lived-in. There’s something special about blending old with new that brings warmth to your home. One of my favorite blog posts was all about vintage girls’ bedrooms, but today, I want to focus on how you can bring that same charm to your living room and other areas of your home. Below, you’ll find some vintage design inspiration along with links to help you get started.”

10. The Texture Takeover

Finally, the texture dominates the decor scene. From organic textures like rattan and linen to tactile surfaces like boucle and velvet, the goal is to create depth and interest. Think layered textures that invite you to touch and feel—this trend brings warmth and comfort into every room.

This will be utilized in rugs, lampshades, and lovely fabrics. I believe that the more texture there is, the better. Here’s a post I wrote about pattern and texture.

Before we go, here are some of the hottest organic textures for 2022 that you can incorporate into your home.
