Happy Valentine’s Day & Black Love!
Good morning, friends, and Happy Valentine’s Day! While today is a celebration of love for everyone, it’s also the perfect time to honor Black love, especially since it’s Black History Month. Black love is powerful, beautiful, and worthy of recognition. So today, let’s shine a light on the couples who exemplify what it truly means to love, uplift, and support each other.
Experiencing Black Love in My Own Life
What better way to start than with my own story? My husband, Mark, and I are living proof of Black love in action. I’ve always loved the term Black love because it represents something special—two people growing together, facing life’s ups and downs, and building something unbreakable.
One day, my neighbor told me, “You and your husband have the kind of Black love so many of us want.” At first, I didn’t fully understand what she meant. But the truth is, while Black love exists everywhere, it isn’t always seen or celebrated as much as it should be. That’s why I don’t hesitate to showcase my love for Mark. It’s not about bragging; it’s about embracing and appreciating the journey we’re on together.

Here’s a throwback photo of Mark and me—back when he had hair! (LOL)

Mark and I are at a wedding.
How the Pandemic Strengthened Our Black Love
The COVID-19 pandemic was a challenging time for many couples, leading to breakups and divorces. Surprisingly, it did the opposite for us—it saved our marriage.
Mark and I have always enjoyed each other’s company, but before the pandemic, our schedules kept us apart more than we realized. For years, work obligations made us miss out on precious moments together. However, being home together reminded us of how much we truly valued each other. I discovered things about Mark that I had overlooked, and I learned to appreciate him in new ways.
That period tested our Black love, but we came out stronger. Of course, love is always a work in progress, but this experience reaffirmed that time spent together is the key to truly knowing and understanding your partner.
Valentine’s Day & Black Love: Tips for Keeping the Spark Alive
If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that love requires effort. Here are some ways to nurture and celebrate Black love (or any love!) not just today, but every day:

This was a night of Netflix and chill. As you can see, we were just chilling and having a good time. We have no qualms about spending time at home.
Here is my Valentine’s Day and Black Love advice.
- Prioritize your relationship—keep love at the forefront of your life.
- Spend quality time together—never let work or routine overshadow your bond.
- Show off your love—embrace and celebrate it without fear.
- Remember that love is a journey—it evolves and requires continuous care.
- Reflect on your beginning—never forget the excitement of those first moments.
- Stay aware in marriage—keep your eyes open to your partner’s needs and feelings.
- Never take each other for granted—express gratitude for your partner daily.
- Don’t just assume happiness—work for it.
- Have fun together—laughter is the secret ingredient to a strong relationship.
- Check-in with each other—make emotional connection a habit.
- Go on dates—keep the romance alive with special outings.
- Recreate meaningful memories—revisit a date that holds sentimental value.
- Put God at the Center – A strong marriage starts with a strong foundation, and for many, that foundation is faith. Make time to pray together and individually, seeking guidance, strength, and blessings for your relationship. Keeping God at the center of your marriage can help deepen your bond and keep you aligned through life’s ups and downs. After all, a couple that prays together stays together.
Mark and I once went on a beautiful boat ride before we were married. That’s something I’d love to do again—just the two of us, reminiscing and making new memories.

And Then There Were Three – The day we welcomed our daughter into the world, everything changed—for the better. She became the greatest blessing in our lives, strengthening our bond as a family. It was then that my husband had a realization: “We can’t stay in an apartment anymore—it’s time to buy a home.” He wanted to give her a sense of stability, a backyard to play in, and access to a great school so she could have every opportunity to thrive. Fast forward to today—our daughter is now in her 20s, and she has become everything we dreamed of and more. Once again, Black love has proven to be a beautiful and rewarding journey.
Black Love Through Generations: My Parents’ Story
I recently wrote a post about my marriage role models—my wonderful parents. They are the very definition of Black love, and their bond has been an inspiration throughout my life.
They’ve been married for 49 years, and we’re already planning something special for their 50th anniversary. Their love story is one for the books, and I can’t wait to share more about it soon.
Here are a few photos from their 30th anniversary. If this isn’t Black love at its finest, I don’t know what is!

This is true Valentine’s Day & Black Love

Will you again take my hand?

Then there’s the dance. I enjoy witnessing the beauty of love
Black Love in the Celebrity World
Alright, friends, let’s talk about some power couples who are shining examples of Black love. If there’s one thing we all know, relationships take work. Now, throw in fame, money, and the constant spotlight—it’s a whole new level of challenge. That’s why I love celebrating the couples who make it work and proudly showcase their love.
Here are some of my absolute favorites:
Barack & Michelle Obama – The Definition of Power & Partnership
When we talk about Black love, we have to start with the Obamas. Their love story is inspiring, their partnership is unshakable, and they’ve shown the world what true commitment looks like.

Apart from being president and first lady, they are a stunning couple that I adore.

More on Barack and Michelle Obama’s black love below.
Beyond being the first Black family in the White House—a historic and proud moment for so many of us—they always exuded grace, strength, and unity. Being President of the United States is one of the most stressful jobs in the world, yet Barack and Michelle took it on together and are still going strong today. If that’s not relationship goals, I don’t know what is!
Denzel Washington & Pauletta Washington – A Love That Stands the Test of Time

What can I say? I love Denzel Washington and his wife, Pauletta. In a world where celebrity marriages can be fleeting, these two have been married for over 40 years!
If I were a celebrity, I’d be first in line to ask them for advice. Seriously—what’s the secret?! Their commitment to each other is a testament to the beauty of long-lasting love. Want to see more of their love story? Check out these:

Steph & Ayesha Curry – Young Love, Strong Love
Listen, y’all don’t even know how much I love this couple! Steph and Ayesha Curry are young, successful, and completely in sync. If you’re not already following them, trust me—you should be.

I think I connect with them so much because their story reminds me of my own. Like my husband and I, they got married young, built a life together, and continued to grow stronger as a team. Seeing them win in love, family, and business just makes me root for them even more.
