Functional, Elegant Home Office: Creating a functional yet elegant home office in your house may be difficult, but it is well worth the effort.
Allow me to demonstrate how to accomplish this.
In today’s world of COVID-19, the home office is one of the most important rooms that holds importance. Many people are noticing just how ugly their home office spaces are. “I need to be motivated to work,” a client expresses. “So, I’d like you to come on over here and convert this office to work-from-home living,” the client says! As a result, we set up a meeting, and I went over to her house. I decided that, yes, it was time to create a Functional, Elegant Home Office for my lovely Client. I will be sharing this project soon in the coming weeks, but for now, check out this blog post about creating a functional, elegant home office:
We all know that a home office, or simply a space to sit and check your mail or catch up with family on a Zoom call, is more important than ever. But you also want to be sophisticated and, most of all, functional, and for me, putting those final pieces in space is everything to me, and also evokes the same sense of calm for my clients.
Firstly, you must choose where in your home office space can be created. Is your office a defined space, or is it a repurposed bedroom? Did your children leave for college, and you now have the space to set up an office? Or are you planning to knock down some walls and create an office space in your home? Let’s take a look at some of these scenarios.
Is your office a dedicated area or a spare bedroom?
The answer to this question is determined by the design of your home. You might not have a layout that permits you to set up a dedicated office. But it doesn’t mean it can’t be created to perfection while still providing purpose and elegance. I love the office setup in the above photo, and below are some of the elements that made this office work.

Are you considering knocking down some walls to create an office space in your home?
Choose a location in your house where an office can be built. When we bought our house, we had a room that was labeled as a music room, which could have easily been a bedroom, but it gave us the perfect space to designate that room as an office. This room has everything, but we wanted to add a French door, a desk, and everything else that makes an office an office. This area might have been walled off, but it wasn’t, and if it had been, we would have knocked down the wall, but happily, for us, we didn’t have to. Check out this beautiful Home office below.

This workplace is both practical and stylish. The blue bookcases and the gorgeous office desk are my favorites. Photo credit here
When you take down walls, you can quickly turn a room into a functional and elegant home office.
The cost of tearing down a wall is not insignificant. While vetting a contractor, I recommend getting all of your ducks in a row. The contractor can tell you whether or not the wall you’re knocking down is a structural wall. If the wall is not structural, you can start working on your new office. Wouldn’t it be great to have a workplace that makes you want to sit down and finish your to-do list? This is an office where you might get that feeling.

Is your workplace tucked away in a corner of the house?
Most of the time, all we have is a tiny area of the house to call our own. Even if you have only a small corner area for your office, you can still turn it into a practical and stylish workspace. Below is a photo of a little office area.

This is an example of a tucked-away corner office. Everything about this modest workspace appeals to me. In a little area, it exudes luxury in a big way.
