Have you ever wondered how we, as designers, get that perfect look in homes every single time? Well, I am here to help you with these 5 STYLING GUIDELINES FOR HOME DECOR
I’m excited to share 5 STYLING GUIDELINES FOR HOME DECOR with you today. These are the tricks and tips that we as designers use daily. So, if you want to redecorate your home, this is the blog post for you. Let’s get started because I’m about to reveal some designer secrets to you.
Styling tricks and hacks are below.
1). Pillows:
Firstly, Pillows are the simplest and most cost-effective method to give your home a trendy look.
- Pillows are absolutely the easiest thing to change in your house and the most affordable way to get that designer look.
- You can buy inserts and continually change your pillow covers.
- They can match your decor, they can match the season and so much more
- Pillow is limitless
- Group your pillows in groups of three when styling them. Don’t forget to make them in a variety of sizes, textures, and finishes.
- If you want to achieve the wow effect, your sofa or bed cannot have a straight line of one-size pillows.
- Layer your pillows: the large pillow should go behind the medium-sized pillow, and the Lumbard pillow should be in front. Therefore, incorporate a variety of shapes and sizes to give it a more dynamic appearance.
- When I decorate with pillows, I always consider including a variety of textures, shapes, and colors to get that designer look.

The two huge pillows and one lumbar pillow are my favorites. We have a 22×22, a 20×20, and a lumbar pillow, I’ll say.

Shae from Studio Mcgee has styled this sectional to perfection. In addition, you can see that there are four pillows in the corner seat and two pillows in the corner. Pillows are a great way to personalize your space.

Pro Tip: Remember to consider scale, texture, and color when designing a room, and you’ll always end up with a lively space.
2). “Why Styling in Groups of 3 or Odd Numbers is a Key to the 5 STYLING GUIDELINES FOR HOME DECOR”
My sister caught me once and remarked, “I notice you always group in threes when you style,” and I immediately said, “Yup.” LOL, To put it mildly, I was busted. This is simple, and I know you guys can do it, and it makes such a large difference. It gives a wonderful triangular and diagonal appearance. I always use a larger, a medium, and a smaller scale, and that gives that dynamic look. When decorating in threes, there are a few things to keep in mind.
- When only two elements are used, the result occasionally falls flat and appears incomplete.
- Adding that third piece has a significant impact because it makes styling appear to be styling. It doesn’t appear to be clutter; rather, it appears to have been purposefully placed there.
- This is something you can do in any room of your house.
- Decorate in groups of 3 with your pillows and your coffee table decor. Additionally, your fireplace mantel decorates your kitchen counters and so much more. Let’s not forget shelf decor it works with it all.
- Guys, I use it for lighting as well. I’ll place lights on one side of the sofa, another on the opposite side, and one across from the sofa. I make certain that the lighting is arranged in a triangle and that there is enough lighting to go around.

“The photo above illustrates a nightstand styled with a grouping of three items. I’ve circled it with an arrow to help you see exactly what I mean.
Sometimes, an odd number in design can be as simple as a single statement piece. Take the entryway photo below, for example. The table features just one large vase, and that’s all it needs to make a stunning impact.”

3). Hanging window panels
When it comes to window treatments, knowing when and where to hang window panels is key. If you choose to hang them, be sure to do so at the right height and in the appropriate setting. Surprisingly, there are times when hanging panels isn’t necessary, while other times, they can make a bold statement. Here are a few ways hanging window panels can enhance your decor:
- Hang them high to create the illusion of a larger space.
- Use them to frame and highlight a window.
- Some windows are so stunning on their own that they don’t need any panels at all.”

Check out the height of the window panes in this picture. Even though the room has high ceilings, the window panels still look like they belong in the room. This room is designed by Amber Interiors

What I like about this space is that the windows are so beautiful that no window panels are required. You don’t want to distract attention away from the windows, which are works of art in this room. This room is designed by Studio Mcgee
4). Hang Wall Art is an essential guideline
- Sometimes, when hanging wall art, it can be right or wrong.
- Make sure to hang wall art at eye level.
- Make sure your eye level is at an average height because hanging art can be difficult if you are extremely tall or extremely short. Remember that most people may not be your height.
- The rule of dumb is when it comes to hanging wall art hang it at 57″ inches that’s about 4 foot7 and that is known as the average human eye height. So when you are standing around the room your art will be hung correctly
- When wall art is mounted too high, it can appear as though it is racing away from the room. It appears to be quite disjointed from the rest of your decor, which you don’t want. It can look as though it is floating.
- Keep in mind that it’s all about what looks natural to you. Bring everything down to eye level if it doesn’t seem to be working.

As a result, this is an example of artwork that has been placed excessively high. As a result, this is the incorrect way to hang art. This image appears to be flying away.

This is the same space, but the artwork has been lowered to eye level in the center of the wall. As a result, it appears to be better and more accurate.

Here’s the same room, but this time with three pieces of art, and it looks great. The artwork is in the appropriate spot, and it isn’t flying away. It appears to be at everyone’s eye level.
5). Pattern: can be one of the 5 STYLING GUIDELINES FOR HOME DECOR
- Working with patterns can be challenging at times. When styling using patterns, there are a few general guidelines to keep in mind. is the pattern’s scale and kind
- Scale can be as simple as bringing in one large-scale motif and two small-scale patterns. Furthermore, you should ensure that your eyes are roaming freely across the room.
- Concentrate on a single pattern and make it the focal point of the room, while incorporating some smaller patterns to help balance the space.
- This is usually simple to do when you have a large pattern area rug and then pair it with some smaller patterns that complement it.

Large and small-scale patterns are becoming more apparent in everything from wallpaper to rugs.

This is a 3D rendering of a pattern and a dark dining room that I created. I like how the wallpaper designs complement the colors in this room.

Here’s a look at the same room without the wallpaper. Even though there is no paper on the wall, this design contrasts well with the other patterns in the design.
